Designed in collaboration with emergency departments, Choreo-ED leverages real-time patient data to anticipate admissions, helping care teams act hours in advance.

Farmington Hills, MI — Healthcare technology consulting firm X by 2 announced the launch of its innovative patient flow tool, Choreo-ED. Refined and tested with advisory input from ED physicians, nurses and hospitalists, Choreo-ED leverages real-time patient data to anticipate ED patient admissions.

“There is no shortage of ideas around how AI will change healthcare, but how many use cases are feasible or truly impactful?” said X by 2 Principal and Healthcare Lead, Qasim Hussain. “We focused on achieving measurable outcomes in the ED while prioritizing transparency and building trust with clinical staff.”

Built around a robust deep-learning model, Choreo-ED evaluates patient data from the moment a patient arrives in the emergency department. By continuously monitoring a comprehensive set of real-time patient data — including vitals, lab results, orders, triage information and medical history — the model updates an Anticipated Decision to Admit (ADTA) score within the hospital’s EHR system. This allows care teams to proactively initiate critical steps in the admission process. With Choreo-ED, hospitals can reduce ED boarding by up to 42%.

“Choreo-ED has the potential to transform hospital workflows for care teams by giving them awareness of admissions in advance.” said X by 2 Director of AI/ML Mitch Quinn. “What if pharmacists could start medication review, or hospitalists began coordinating with ED physicians while workup was being completed, long before a shift change? That’s where Choreo-ED can be valuable. It doesn’t replace any part of the decision process; it acts as a valuable resource — an addition to your care team.”

Choreo-ED is a product of collaboration between X by 2 AI research scientists, physician advisors and clinicians who worked closely to ensure the tool addressed patient flow challenges. The product went through multiple iterations, informed by feedback from hospitalists and platform users.

“Gaining insight from hospital leaders and clinical teams was key,” said Quinn. “We wanted to use AI in a way that could have a meaningful, positive impact on patient experiences as well as the teams delivering care. Close collaboration with stakeholders in the hospital throughout Choreo-ED’s development helped us achieve that.”

With Choreo-ED, X by 2 aims to redefine emergency department operations — empowering care teams with the insights they need to deliver timely, effective patient care and ultimately transform the ED experience for patients and healthcare providers alike.
